David helps our Water

  WATER

Our world needs our water bodies. It is the source of our food, from the animals that are living there to the water itself. It is used for transportation and support industries like the oil tankers that go through the Great Lakes. Other water bodies like rivers, small lakes, sea are used for fun (fishing, jet skiing, boating, kayaking, swimming, etc.). Freshwater bodies such as springs can also be used as a source for drinking water.

DAVID SUZUKI FOUNDATION

After getting tuned to David Suzuki's award-winning radio series, people urged David Suzuki and Tara Cullis to create a solution-based organization that will help our planet towards a better future. On September 14, 1990 the David Suzuki Foundation was founded after many planning meetings.

The David Suzuki Foundation is a national organization in Canada. Its head office is in Vancouver. They have another office in Montreal, Toronto, and Ottawa.

The David Suzuki Foundation mostly have their projects with the help of another organization.

PROJECTS

Protect the BC Teztan Biny (Fish Lake)

Taseko Mines Limited (Mining company) is asking federal approval of opening a mine near a fishing lake in south central British Columbia. This will destroy the fish lake and the fishes that live in it forever.

The David Suzuki Foundation, along with other organizations, oppose this project. In the organization's website, they are giving you the opportunity of sending an email with your name and address on it. This email will be sent to the federal government telling them to not permit the mining company to create a mine near the lake. This will save the lake and the fishes in it.

The Tideline Project

(Tideline Project Video)

This project is created to increase awareness to the people that global warming is within our doorstep. Only a few more years and the glaciers will melt making the sea level rise flooding the earth. People in the organization created tidelines from recycled mussels and placed it in the downtown area where a number of people can see. It then looked like that the city was underwater. The tidelines served as a reminder and a warning.

2010 RBC Blue Water Project Leadership Grant

The David Suzuki Foundation was selected by the RBC to promote the "Blue Water Project Leadership Grant". They were given a grant of $100,000 to fund "A River Runs Through Us", a program designed to create an increased culture of watershed stewardship in Quebec. The program will also help raise awareness and mobilize citizens to implement sustainable water and land use practices.

I didn't know David Suzuki had done so much so far. You did a really good research on your topic. I enjoyed the visuals on it and summarized the projects really well. The video was very informative and I can see that most of his projects targeted the emotions of the people by emailing letters.
